Intrathecal therapy
The delivery of chemotherapy into the cerbrospinal fluid (either through a lumbar puncture channel or through a shunt or reservoir that directly leads into the CSF in the brain ventricles). The use of such therapy is common in the intitial therapy of some forms of acute leukamia and in carcinomatous meningitis (where the cancer cells are growing within the CSF).
