Scar-free breast reconstruction technique – a claim that is bound to produce headlines

Dr. Gino Rigotti (head of plastic surgery at Verona General Hospital claimed at the 68th annual meeting of American Society of plastic surgeons that he had devised at technique to achieve this ‘holy grail’. In this modification of the reconstruction operation, Rigotti uses a ‘purse-string’ closure to the central portion of the surgical wound, reducing the length and appearance of the scar. Additionally, the expander is not the usual oval of spherical shape, but semi-lunate, allowing the surgeon to expand only the inferior pole and thus achieve a more desirable position and shape.
