PSA velocity prior to prostatectomy is prognostic

A recent study reported from California looked at the rise in the blood/serum PSAprior to surgery for early prostate cancer. The authors found where there was a rise of more than 2ng/ml/year the overall later relapse rate was slightly higher than amongst those in whom the rise was less than 2. This observation probably holds true for whatever the method of treatment but this study only looked at those patients who were treated by radical prostatectomy.
